Here's how it works
Two filter stages. Two operating principles.
The Selfpress combines two different filtration technologies. The hollow fiber membrane with a pore size of 0.2 µm mechanically retains bacteria, protozoa, microplastics, and particles. It is complemented by an activated carbon block, whose large internal surface area adsorbs specific dissolved substances. This reduces, among other things, chlorine as well as odor- and taste-impairing substances. In this way, mechanical filtration and activated carbon adsorption complement each other in a two-stage filter system.
- Membrane filter0.2 µm hollow fiber membrane. Anything larger is trapped.
- Activated carbonRemoves chlorine and improves taste
- Independently lab-testedLog 8 against E. coli.
Your filter over time.
-
After each tour Allow to air dry
Press air through the filter 2–3 times to push out any remaining moisture inside. Then remove the filter, leave it open to dry completely, and store it separately from the other components.
-
Up to 1500 liters Maximum capacity.
The maximum filter capacity is 1500 liters. The actual service life depends on the quality of the filtered water.
-
Flow blocked The Change Signal
With continuous use, the membrane pores gradually become clogged, causing the flow rate to decrease over time. Once water can no longer be pushed through the filter, it is time to replace the filter element.
-
Storage Minimum 2 years shelf life
When stored correctly, the filter element has a shelf life of at least 2 years. After use and subsequent storage, it is important to dry the filter element completely and promptly.

Which Bach gold for which task?
Honestly: only Squeeze and Straw filter viruses; they work in two stages with electroadsorption. The Selfpress is the most convenient bottle in the range; for virus risk, add the Squeeze.

Frequently Asked Questions
What distinguishes the Selfpress from other water filters?
Thanks to the practical all-in-one solution of the Bachgold® Outdoor Water Filter, no external hoses or cumbersome components are needed to filter the water. You get filtered water within seconds and can drink it directly from the bottle.
How long does the filter element last with regular use?
The Selfpress 800ml has a maximum filter capacity of 2,000 liters. This corresponds to approximately 2,500 application cycles.
How do I know when the filter needs to be replaced?
You will know that the filter needs to be changed when the filtration process can only be performed with significantly increased effort. Over time, the fine pores of the filter membrane become increasingly clogged with particles and deposits. As a result, the water flow decreases and pressing becomes noticeably harder.
How long does the filter element last when not in use?
With optimal storage, the filter element has a shelf life of at least 2 years.
What do I do if water overflows while filtering?
Ensure that the water does not exceed the fill line of the outer container and that there is no air between the water and the filter element before starting the filtering process. Check that the sealing ring on the filter element is correctly seated, and ensure that the drinking spout remains open throughout the filtering process.
What materials is the Selfpress made of and where is it manufactured?
The Selfpress 800 ml is made of BPA-free plastics (PP and ABS), silicone, and silicone gel; the Selfpress XL is made of polypropylene, also BPA-free. Designed and developed in Switzerland and manufactured by our partner in China.
Can I use soap or vinegar essence for cleaning?
No. Do not use soap or vinegar essence to clean the filter element. These can permanently damage the filter. Clean water is sufficient.
Which filter element do I need to reorder?
The same filter element that is in the Selfpress. For the Selfpress 500 ml: Filter element Selfpress. For the Selfpress XL: Filter element Selfpress XL.
Does the Selfpress also filter viruses?
No. The Selfpress XL works with a hollow fiber membrane and activated carbon. Bacteria and protozoa are reliably filtered out, but the filter only offers limited reduction for viruses. If filtering viruses is important to you, for example on long-distance trips, we recommend our Squeeze or Straw. Both use a two-stage filter system that also effectively retains viruses. Go to Squeeze
Can I use this to drink tap water while traveling?
Yes, in principle, the Selfpress can also be used for treating tap water while traveling. The hollow fiber membrane retains bacteria and protozoa, while the activated carbon reduces chlorine as well as unpleasant tastes and odors, among other things. However, viruses are only reduced to a limited extent by the Selfpress. In regions where tap water contamination with viruses cannot be ruled out, we therefore recommend our Squeeze. To the Squeeze
Where can I view the laboratory test results?
The independent laboratory test can be viewed in full on our laboratory page. To the test results
